BEST PLACES TO WATCH THE SUNSET IN SANTA CRUZ

One of my favorite things to do in life is watching a good sunset. It feels like that moment in the day were to get to wind down and reflect on your day. It’s the passing of the day to the night.  It’s the moment you get to sit still and watch a transition so beautiful that it lights up the sky.

I wait for this moment, Sometimes it can be something spectacular to enjoy in your own moment, but it also has a way of bringing people together to all enjoy a moment in time to have laughter, gratitude, and peace.

Where are your favorite places to enjoy these sunsets? I can name a few…

ONE: Pleasure Point is my hub for all things magical and beautiful to look at. Rockview especially during the wintertime is probably one of the coolest spots to catch the sunset. Winter just brings a whole new level and color scheme to the sky during this time. Thursdays there is normally a great local band that will set up and plays music. Families gather, one of the neighbors brings fresh homemade cookies to share, couples enjoy a glass of wine. It’s that moment where the sunset brings you all together.

TWO: How about dinner and a sunset? Another one of my favorite places to watch the sunset is Crows Nest in the Santa Cruz Harbor. There is something so cliche but also beautiful about being able to sip a glass of champagne and watch the sun go down with the different glazing colors surrounding the lighthouse at the edge of the water. Watching boats come by and the silhouette of the waves sparking on the rocks. Can’t get much better than that.

THREE: Want an adventure? Spot #3 takes a little drive, depending on where you live in town. Greyhound Rock in Davenport. If you are looking to put some music on and enjoy a coastal drive is a cool spot., passing the yellow field of flowers on each side of the highway, this is your sunset! You can’t just pull up here and park in your car. Sure you can get out and watch from the lookout spot, but if you want the full experience you have to walk down the trail! Here’s where the adventure begins. Depending on the tides, if it is low enough to cross onto greyhound rock, I would climb to the top and sprawl out a cozy blanket, and watch from there. Don’t get me wrong I love a good blanket, putting my toes in the sand, and watching from the beach. It is beautiful, but if you feel like more than the rock is a fun place to try out.
